GUTHRIE CENTER, IA – A tractor driver was injured – and a potentially explosive situation averted – after a bridge collapsed in this central Iowa county Friday.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a man was driving a 9510R John Deere tractor over a bridge on Friday, April 11 at about 8:20 PM when the bridge collapsed.
The tractor was pulling anhydrous ammonia tanks. The tractor and the tanks – along with the bridge – were pulled down into a creek, below.
The driver, Michael R. Haag, age 34, of Adair, was injured and taken to an area hospital by ambulance. The report states that the quick response of the Guthrie Fire Department prevented any major leaks of ammonia.
