IOWA CITY – Downtown Iowa City welcomes the opening of Le Crave, a locally and family-owned café that blends the rich culinary traditions of the Middle East with classic Western café culture. Located at 14 S Clinton Street, Le Crave contributes to downtown’s ongoing evolution as a destination for innovation, community, and economic growth.

The opening of Le Crave marks another investment in Downtown Iowa City’s commercial vitality, bringing a unique concept to the market that serves both the local community and the city’s diverse visitor population. The establishment offers a varied menu featuring handcrafted crepes, traditional Middle Eastern flatbreads including za’atar and lahm bi ajeen, premium cold-cut sandwiches, and specialty coffee beverages alongside an array of treats and baked goods.

“We wanted to create more than just a café, we envisioned a gathering space where people from all backgrounds feel welcome and where global flavors meet local hospitality,” said Maryam Al Share, Operations Manager of Le Crave. “Downtown Iowa City has exceptional foot traffic, a supportive business community, and the kind of cultural diversity that aligns perfectly with our mission. We’re excited to contribute to the continued growth and energy of this district.”

Le Crave will make its debut at the Iowa City Downtown District’s 16th annual Top Chef: Downtown event later this month, a sold-out showcase celebrating the culinary diversity of downtown bars, cafes, and local restaurants. The event provides an engaging platform for new establishments to connect with the community and gain exposure among Iowa City’s dining enthusiasts.

“Top Chef: Downtown has become a cornerstone event for highlighting the exceptional culinary talent in our downtown district,” said Christopher Hunter, Director of Marketing & Communications at the Iowa City Downtown District. “We’re thrilled to welcome Le Crave to this year’s lineup. This event is particularly valuable for new businesses like Le Crave. It gives them an opportunity to introduce their unique offerings to hundreds of community members in a single evening. The fact that we’ve sold out once again speaks to the strong appetite our community has for discovering the diverse flavors downtown has to offer.”

Located in the former Molly’s Cupcakes space on Clinton Street, Le Crave operates seven days a week with extended hours to serve the downtown community, including late-night service on Fridays and Saturdays until 10:00 PM. The business offers catering services for corporate and community events and actively partners with local fundraising initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to civic engagement and economic participation in the region.

The café’s menu reflects a deliberate strategy to introduce customers to diverse culinary experiences while maintaining approachable favorites. Signature offerings include Mediterranean za’atar flatbread, French-inspired sweet crepes with various fillings, Brazilian-style lemonade, and specialty items such as Dubai chocolate strawberry cups and stuffed pancake bites. The establishment features a rotating selection of display case items, ensuring menu freshness and seasonal variety.

Le Crave’s decision to establish its business in the district further solidifies Downtown Iowa City’s reputation as a dynamic commercial hub that entrepreneurs and businesses seek to be part of. The business joins a growing roster of independent establishments that contribute to the district’s economic diversity and cultural appeal. With hopes to expand menu offerings and continue community partnerships, Le Crave positions itself as a long-term stakeholder in downtown’s sustained prosperity.

To encourage repeat patronage and build customer loyalty, Le Crave has implemented a rewards program offering a complimentary pastry after ten visits. The business also accommodates special orders when feasible, providing flexible service options for individual and corporate clients. Le Crave accepts the Iowa City Downtown District gift card, a community business support gift card honored at over 160 downtown businesses, with funds going directly to support participating establishments.
