‘Attempting to nullify laws by blackmail only harms the economy.’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. House approval today of a continuing resolution that amends a Senate-approved measure by funding the federal government at current levels of $986.3 billion through December 15th. The House measure also adds language that delays implementation of the Affordable Care Act and repeals a medical device tax. Harkin is the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

“House Republicans are attempting to nullify a law upheld by the Supreme Court, not by overturning the law, but by blackmail – threatening to shut down the government. That would only harm our fragile economy. This measure has no chance of passing the Senate. The fact that the Senate has already rejected a similar proposal demonstrates that House Republicans would rather play games than govern. Iowans and all Americans deserve better.”

There is no amount of money great enough for the Democrat spending machine.

All bad laws can be changed. That is what government is all about. The debt ceiling is a law as well. Do you think the Democrats don’t want to change that so they can borrow more money to give away?

Harkin, You stop being a roadblock to progress!

Work with the Republicans and don’t you DEMOCRATS
shut the Government down.

Yes Harkin, we deserve legislation that involves viewpoints all those elected to represent us. Democrats, once in the majority, acted unilaterally and approved Obamacare which we are now learning has a multitude of “unintended” consequences.
For you to think the opposition should not use whatever leverage it finds available is incredulous. How else would you expect them to act? Nice & compliant?
While they’re it, I hope the whole business of the Fed printing money comes into play since it is now the vehicle for the ever expanding the deficit. Every dollar printed simply is stealing from everyone’s retirement & savings. When this scheme implodes we all will have been immeasurably damaged by the Obama administration’s wanton lack of leadership.
Yes Harkin, we do deserve better.
