Oped-ed by Peter Children –
I had the opportunity to speak with Jodie Draper today. We spoke briefly about her activities and the day to day tribulations of running for public office. She said after she attends a rally of some sort in Central Park she intends to resume knocking on doors in the Forest Park area.
She told me that Travis Hickey is focusing on that particular area in an attempt to make amends for the Mercy Hospital fiasco. Now that takes real guts. Just imagine walking up to a door, knocking on it and when the homeowner answers the door….there stands their representative, the very same one who stood mute while these people pleaded for help, fought to maintain whatever equity they accumulated in their homes. And all the while as they marched one by one to the podium with undefinable anguish pleading for a mere modicum of justice from those who these very homeowners themselves placed into those seats with their votes…..justice that was irredeemable and irrevocable.
If you could somehow add up the equity in terms of resale value lost, it would run into several hundreds of thousands of dollars. No one is going to pay the price those homes were once worth before the trucks and generators became a predominate factor. To say differently is pure folly. In my opinion each councilperson was guilty of malfeasance,
So now Hickey knocks on the front doors and says what? “I’m sorry, give me a chance to do it over again?” Is that what he is going to say? He’s a day late and a dollar short don’t you think? Once more they want the chicken to vote for Colonel Sanders….but this time it’s not going to happen.
Hickey should go back to the bar in The Historic Park Inn Hotel and drink with the Mayor because that is exactly where they all were as that equity slipped away……
