Tablet taker taken to pokey

MASON CITY – A local man who took a computer tablet is now in jail on a theft charge.

According to Mason City police, Monroe Brown III, 24, allegedly stole a Samsung computer tablet from a residence at the 600 block of North Penn on July 18th.

Brown was subsequently charged with fourth degree theft on that charge, arrested and taken to jail.

Police further detailed a felony charge against Brown that stemmed from his trip to jail for the theft of the tablet. Police said that Brown was charged with a D felony for possession of marijuana (contraband) in a correctional facility.

Brown was set to appear for an arraignment hearing on September 11th but failed to show up. A warrant was immediately issued for his arrest by Judge Annette Boehlje.

Police picked up Brown at his home at the 2400 block of South Taft Ave on September 11th.

Brown is now in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $1,000.00 cash-only bond.
