SHEFFIELD — A Northern Iowa man was injured Friday after his pickup truck slammed into the back of a trailer being pulled by a farm tractor near Sheffield.
The crash happened at about 12:15 p.m. July 17, 2026, at the intersection of 110th Street and Nettle Avenue, according to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said 43-year-old Matthew Varner of Kensett was driving south on Nettle Avenue in a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 when his pickup struck the rear of a trailer.
The trailer was being pulled by a John Deere 2555 tractor driven by 62-year-old Mark Lage of Sheffield.
After the collision, Varner’s pickup left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.
Varner suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.
Lage was not injured.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
No citations or charges were announced in the initial report.
When are enough people going to get hurt or killed by these bozos driving this junk on public roads ? They are rude, fail to obey rules , and have total disregard for other citizens of this state. Varner hit the trailer. Not sure how you see “reckless people in the ag industry” at fault. But, I guess you just hate farmers.
