MASON CITY – Saturday’s rain showers did not affect the annual MCPD Triathlon held at the Mason City Aquatic Center.
There was food, music, prizes and plenty of good competition for people of all ages and abilities.
As in years past, the event was a sprint tri consisting of a 250 meter swim, a 3.1 mile run, and a 10 mile bike ride.
“Team Weaver” won the overall team title in a time of 51:28. The threesome included Ruben Weaver, Kenyon Brown and former Mohawk track standout Coty Thompson. The three were all set to go on a bike ride and enjoy the rest of the day after their win.
Mason City police officers handed out awards to top finishers by age group, and lots of great prizes were drawn for participants. Two scholarships were awarded as well.
MCPD’s Frank Stearns thanked the many sponsors that helped make the event a success.
