Student slaughters chicken in cafeteria

CALGARY, Alberta, April 19 (UPI) — An Alberta college student slaughtered a chicken in a school cafeteria as part of an art project, shocking some fellow students.

Some students at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary said they were shocked Thursday when the student slaughtered the chicken during lunchtime, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

“He just decided to slowly slit its throat while it’s wiggling, wriggling and screaming and then drained it out, popped its head off, strung it up, washed it, plucked it,” witness Breydon Stangland said.

Some students complained about the performance piece, which classmates said was part of a sculpture project called “Fact or Fiction.”

“I don’t think it is very good to just do that and subject people to seeing that without, you know, giving them any warning. Plus, in a cafeteria where we’re eating food — that’s not OK,” student Casey Switzer said.

Police were called by witnesses but said no charges will be filed.

School officials said they are deciding whether to take action against the student.
