Child hurt after alleged drunken driver rams Casey’s

MASON CITY – Shortly after 3pm Friday, Mason City police responded to Casey’s at 2701 19th Street Southwest in Mason City on a report of a vehicle colliding with the building.

An unrestrained child in the vehicle received minor injuries.

After an investigation 51-year-old David Allen Hinrichs of Des Moines was arrested and transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail. Hinrichs has been charged with:
1 Class D felony charge of child endangerment with bodily injury
1 serious misdemeanor count of OWI
1 simple misdemeanor count of failure to carry proof of insurance

Hinrichs remained in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on Saturday evening on $2,500 cash only bond pending further court proceedings set for August 24th at 8:30 am.

Aside from the criminal charges deputies have notified child protective services of the incident. Child protective service has opened its own investigation into the incident.

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
