AMES, Iowa – April 25, 2012 – The Iowa Department of Transportation is announcing the permanent closure of the northbound Interstate 35 rest area near Ankeny. The facility will close at 7 p.m. Monday, April 30. Electronic message boards will be activated to alert travelers of the closure.
The southbound I-35 rest area near this location will remain open until August 2012, when it too will be permanently closed.
The closures are required as part of the new interchange being constructed at 36th Street in Ankeny. New rest area facilities will be constructed in the future along I-35, between exits 96 and 102 north of Ankeny. These facilities are expected to be constructed in 2013.
The next available northbound rest area is located at milepost 120, just south of Story City.
Traveler services are available at private businesses along the I-35 corridor in the Des Moines Metro area, Ankeny and Ames, including those that can accommodate commercial motor vehicles.
