MASON CITY – A Bettendorf man was arrested early Friday morning after an altercation at a Mason City bar.
Mason City police responded to an incomplete 911 call advising of a fight at Burke’s Bar & Grill at 12:51 AM this morning.
Police reported that one subject who refused to comply with police orders was arrested. Alexander Christian Sartain, 32, of Bettendorf was arrested and charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts. Both charges are simple misdemeanors.
According to a bystander who contacted NIT, “I got there and someone had said those two guys were just fueling things.. I hadn’t even gone in when the bartender went back in and escorted them out.
“The white guy that (got) arrested kind of charged one person who pushed him back,” the source continued, “he was so drunk he fell into lil Mexican dude and they both fell onto the ground.
“Right before he got pushed that white guy was (smacking) himself in the face trying to instigate and that’s when he was pushed backwards.. if the cops hadn’t of showed up precisely when they did it would have turned into full fledged fight. The drunk white guy wouldn’t follow orders to stay seated so (the police) could figure out what was going on and after (2nd, 3rd, 4th) time of him standing up when (police) told him to stay seated he was cuffed. Then when female (officer) was trying to get him in back of squad car he kicked one of the officers.”
