Osage man dead after running stop sign and colliding with semi

MITCHELL COUNTY – An Osage man is dead after running a stop sign and colliding with a semi Friday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Friday, January 29, 2021 at 1:32 PM. A 1999 Chevy Silverado driven by 66-year-old Steven H. Kapping of Osage was westbound on 320th Street in Mitchell county when he approached an intersection at Highway 218. Kapping allegedly was not wearing a seatbelt and failed to yield the stop sign. His pickup entered the roadway and was struck by a 1998 Kenworth semi southbound on Highway 218, driven by 45-year-old Darin M. Tusler of Osage.

As a result of the crash, Kapping was transported by Mitchell county EMS to an Osage hospital but died from his injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by DOT/MVE, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Dept., Floyd County Sheriff Dept., Osage Fire Dept., Mitchell County EMS, Floyd County
Fire Dept., and Mitchell County EMA.
