Violent Beje Clark escapee captured by Mason City Police

MASON CITY – Shortly before 9:30 PM Saturday night, Mason City Police went to apartment #3 at 114 5th Street NE in Mason City after receiving information a wanted subject was hiding out there.

Willie York, age 32, fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by law enforcement.

York was booked into the Cerro Gordo County jail a short time later on a warrant for a serious misdemeanor charge of absence from custody, a simple misdemeanor count of interference with official acts, and a Beje Clark hold.

Law enforcement had been searching for York since Dec 23rd when he had been allowed to leave Beje Clark on furlough to search for a job and never returned.

York is serving a 20-year sentence for robbery and terrorism in a 1999 shooting incident in the 900 block of North Federal in Mason City. In the incident, York was found guilty of firing multiple shots into an occupied apartment’s window. Court records show an attempted murder charge in the incident was dismissed.

According to online court records, Willie York has twice been convicted on escape charges from Beje Clark 2009 and 2011, yet repeatedly is sent to the facility.

It is not clear at this time rather anybody will face charges for helping York hide out.
