Ground Swells (by Peter Children)

(Op-ed by Peter Children)

In the South in the 60’s when the Civil Rights movement began, it began because an African American was denied service at a lunch counter. That led to boycotts across the city; that boycott spread quickly to other cities and as we who remember led to freedom rides and marches….and broke the so called color line.

What is occurring now in public parks across the world is commendable. I hear figures like 75,000 people will move their bank accounts to Credit Unions on Friday….it’s a start but in itself will not change anything. If 10,000,000 were to do it, then it would be cause for concern.

Politics is a fickle bed partner, you can get under the covers with someone and just when you thinks things are going to be wonderful, someone passes gas and all bets are off. I can read and write and walk and chew gum at the same time; you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see what is and has been going on since the first night Obama slept upstairs in the White House. The Republican party has voted to block everything this bright young man has sought to enact.

In Europe and across the world he is a hero to millions, here his presence has angered the Southern establishment in the Senate and Congress, and has spread like a malignant tumor in the belly of the beast . The jobs bill was voted down to rebuild the country’s infrastructures, a move that would have employed over a million unemployed workers….voted down by Republican interests. The park people need to change who they are arming at.
