Clear Lake house fire causes $250K in damages

CLEAR LAKE – A Thursday morning house fire along the shores of Clear Lake caused $250,000 in damages, the fire department says.

Clear Lake Fire Department Chief Doug Meyers reports that the Clear Lake Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 4238 South Shore Drive in Clear Lake at 9:49 AM, Thursday, August 8, 2024. Upon arrival, firefighters found a two story, single family home with heavy smoke throughout the house and fire venting through a window on the first floor.

An agressive attack was made, and the fire was quickly knocked down. The house was ventilated, and the area around the origin was overhauled checking for extension into void spaces.

Clear Lake firefighters were assisted at the scene by 2 engine companies and a water tende from Ventura Fire Department with 7 firefighters, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department.

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 2 engine company, 2 medic units, and 1 support truck with a total of 14 firefighters.

There were no injuries.

Damage to the home is estimated at $250,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The home, which is insured, is owned by Barbara Andrews; she was was not at home at the time of the fire.
