MASON CITY – A Mason City resident alerted NIT that Mayor Eric Bookmeyer supporters were handing out Halloween candy to children with election propaganda stuck to the wrappers that said “Vote for Eric Bookmeyer.”

“Wow I have seen it all now,” the Mason City resident told NIT Saturday.

“My son was going through his Halloween candy and said ‘what’s this?’ I looked and on the bottom of a candy bar was a sticker that said ‘Vote for Eric Bookmeyer.’

The man said that he was none to happy to have the election sales pitch in his child’s Halloween bag.

“The candy went straight in the garbage and if the people of this city are as mad as I am they will not vote for him. This is a new low for politics in Mason City.”

The legal voting age in America is 18.

Eric Bookmeyer supporters have given him over $12,000 tohelp him get re-elected ... and found the time to put propaganda on children's Halloween treats.

Lesser of two evils…The whole election has been based on record vs. bashing of record…any ideas? One..line painting..thats what I have heard in the past 3 months, is that we can do our own line painting. Great..good idea!..So we are going to let people talk as long as they want at council meetings and we are going to hire locally to paint lines and curbs, perfect, what about economic development? We have heard nothing but negative tones from here about our Economic Development group, but what is the solution? What are you going to do better to bring in the jobs, be specific! What about Crime? With a fixed budget and pressure from Senior Citizens on fixed personal budgets themselves, what are you going to do to improve crime? Punish the landlords? So what are you going to do so that home ownership is improved or how will you help the landlords in this town find better tenants? What is the plan to stop the bleeding of talent and youth leaving north Iowa, meaning what amenities do you propose we have here to keep people or have them come back? So many problems, and it has been demonstrated many many times here that these currently elected are not the right fit…what makes the challenger the better fit?

@You’ll Do-you have not listened very well. All of that has been addressed and they all explained their goals several times.

Where has this been told? Never on this site!

I would think a last push, a one more time info blast is important. All of these people are challengers, you have to earn the vote, you have 24 hours, work for every vote! To say Lvs, it has been said so there there is not going to earn votes.

it is a sad state of affairs when 2 of the 3 votes I cast this week will be votes against someone and not for someone. I’m not to sure any of the candidates are running for the right reasons. The only candidate that I am voting for is Jodie Draper. The others are votes against a candidate.

Halloween – Christmas for Athiests!

I posted this on the article about the 10 year old praising Max which I thought was hypocritical of Matt. “OF you missed my point. I think it’s great for young people to get interested in politics. I took umbrage at Matt’s calling the “vote for me ” advertisement “tainting” the candy and “propaganda”. This should have been a teaching moment for any parent who is for Max or Quinn to explain why they are not voting for the Mayor. It’s not like Halloween isn’t the most commercialized and made up holiday already. A little advertising on the free candy is not the end of the world or that it somehow crosses a line.” Discuss this among yourselves and get back to me;>)

I think eric bookmeyer should not be relected because I ran into him the other day talking to tom jolas a fomer mayor saying he doesn’t like social media and he doesn’t care what happens he just like he doesn’t like comments made by the general public at the city council meetings. so he is the wrong mayor for mason city.

If they really wanted to do something for the blue zone they should harness all the methane gas created by the mayor and council at the meetings. They could power city hall.

If they really wanted to do something for the blue zone they should harness all the methane gas greated by the mayor and council at the meetings. They could power city hall with one meeting.

Get out and vote Max !!

I did notice Mr. Bookmeyer’s name is on a “Snickers” bar. Hummmm, very interesting.

Wow, what a hollow-wiener.

I wish people knew the differences between your and you’re before they make public postings in the comments.

And there and their, etc. I don’t know about anyone else, but when I read a comment by someone who can’t even spell or write at a seventh grade level, I usually give their comments little or no consideration.

This is starting to get a little petty.

“This is starting to get a little petty.” The understatement of the year.

There’s nobody worth voting for need to fire them all and start from scratch.

Dave how many times you going say that crap…crawl back to that hole of yours and eat a bowl of crap you have a lot of it..

I for one will be so happy when this down dirty election process is over. Who can throw the most mud? Who cares about whose name if anyone is on the candy? Why don’t we debate the issues and leave the dirty politics out of it. Is it Tues. Yet? Is it over?? Who survived? It’s not always the best wins. Look who we have in the WH now!!!

You are kidding about the Mayor taking away the cupcakes at school right? Oh that was sarcasm, good one DR.

He’s a fatty

Good well thought out analysis of the situation. Bravo chris.

You mean the guy who hasn’t run a single balanced piece on anyone. Even himself. During this election process. The guy who if someone questions him or properly puts him in their place. Is Blasted on this site. Right he has way more class than me.

@That guy-you got that right. Matt does have more class than you. You don’t see him on here bad mouth someone under a anonymous name.

don’t he?

@Katie-Drunkmeyer has the UGLY road signs as well and a lot of them are displayed illegally. That is the type of person he is. Putting his name a a child’s candy is a new low even for him.

lvs politicians have done this locally for years. I even remember this when I was trick-or-treating many many years ago. I do agree it is tacky at best but Bookmeyer isn’t the first to do it.

@DR Dunn-even you must admit he is pretty damn hypocritical to be pushing the Blue Zone, drink like a fish, smoke and give candy to kids. My guess is he wants to make them all as fat as he is.

I would agree that I can see the hypocrisy there.

No more obnoxious than having to look at ugly yard signs. You can throw wrappers away. You can’t shut your eyes while driving. LOL

Katie, that took no class. You seriously can’t see that???
