MASON CITY – A man lost his life this weekend in Mason City after a tragic gun incident, police say.
On Saturday, May 14, 2022, at approximately 5:44 p.m., Mason City Police responded to a medical call for a person who had sustained a gunshot wound in the alley, just south of the 10 block of West State Street. Officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter and found a male with a gunshot wound and immediately administered lifesaving measures.
The Mason City Fire Department arrived a short time later and transported the male to MercyOne North Iowa for treatment. The male was pronounced dead at MercyOne a short time later.
The preliminary investigation into this matter is complete. The gunshot wound was self- inflicted. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner. There is no ongoing criminal investigation in this matter. As a result, we will not be releasing the name of the decedent.
