Masson elected to third ward council seat in Mason City

“I will serve the people of the Third Ward in an intelligent, thoughtful manner.

I am grateful to all of my supporters for their efforts and actions during this quick special election cycle.”

That’s called rallying! This guy is probably nice enough, but let’s be honest…..he doesn’t know politics and you will find out.

Mark Holt, president of the Central Heights Neighborhood Association has been working with the city & Brent Trout quite a bit recently and has the ball rolling on getting that paving done.

Now that all the hard work has been done, Marquardt just sees it as a bandwagon that he can hop on.

yeah, never vote a union guy into a government position. that’s a sure way for the public’s taxes to go up with a union guy in authority. but at least all the public workers can expect huge pay increases at the taxpayers expense. sanchez is just a “weaver” clone, a loud mouth bully.

Would you care to elaborate on Sanchez being similar to Weaver? I don’t know the guy, but I sure know Weaver, and I’d love having someone like him representing us in the fourth ward.

are you illiterate? The post states what weaver is about. It’s obvious weaver has you fooled. Take off your tunnel vision glasses and look around to the real world. In all of weaver’s previous terms he has done nothing to advance the city.

Weaver has more brains than all of the mediocre nobodies at the chamber combined. I guess that’s why they hate him so much

I wouldn’t brag about your numbers Masson, there’s more to it than that.
To who said more people less taxes is just dumb.

LOW VOTER TURNOUT? What good does it do to vote?

Voters have lost hope! Election after election voters go to the poles thinking they are voting for someone that will represent “them”. After they get into office voters find another shallow leader who really don’t have a set of principles that fit into governing a “republic”.

America is a Republic and elected representatives are SUPPOSE to GOVERN BY CONSENT!

That don’t happen. The power lies in getting your yes men/women sitting on the council. Apathy is created by being kicked in the ass election after election and the Chamber Of Commerce Elite know that. They love the low voter turn out, it makes their job easier.

I know we should not give up but if you ask the ones that don’t vote I am pretty sure you will find “hopelessness” come up often.

If you want a bigger city then move to one. Who gives a shIt if this town GROWS. What Is That All About anyway. We Have Been The same Size for years give or take. Everyone is fine. The Last eight years they didnt get it done, or any years for that matter. Get over that.
Some of the coolest places to travel arent big towns. Get creative instead. Instead of wallowing in your hate for Max.

Do you like higher property taxes? Because that is what a town that continually shrinks MUST do (less people to pay for the existing infrastructure equals more taxes).

Plus, I’d like there to be meaningful job opportunities for my children and grandchildren in this town.

OP does make a valid point. Crowding is overrated, as mankind will become aware as the 21th century progresses. In the long run, less people means less need for infrastructure to maintain. Also, more people means more need for infrastructure to maintain, so if the new comers are by-and-large working poor, unable to pay for their share of the increase, then growth may well mean increased taxes as well. Finally, do you consider working the night shift in an Abattoir for $13/h a meaningful job opportunity for your children and grandchildren?

Turn the tide at our schools. Become better at the 3 R’s and offer 21st century work skills training. Stop whining “we don’t have good jobs”, or the flip side, “we don’t have skilled workers”. Dig deep. People are addicted to drugs, depression, ways of thinking, and anger. Figure out how to help people out of their ruts and start thinking again.

I’m the first to agree regarding the importance of education. I drill my kids in Math and English every night. Our public school system was my main reason for opposing the sort of growth they tried shoving down our throat not too long ago.

Your comment shows the height of stupidity. If you haven’t noticed our property taxes have doubled in the last 10 years.

You need growth to bring in new money. Mason City has not done that for decades and retail low paying service jobs does nothing to enhance our community well being.

Please get your head out of your ass!

They say they won’t raise our taxes. The city will just raise the value of our homes, thus, our taxes are higher !

1 BIG disadvantage is – Max has been around the apple cart and knows who the crooks are – Mr. newbie will have to sort them out over the years or maybe join them ? Just a thought so don’t crap your pants right now.

I more concerned about folks who know who the town dumbasses are that keep holding us back. Glad to see that almost 2/3 of the voters know. BOO-YAH!!!!!

Not 2/3 of the voters….2/3 of the 18% that care enough to vote.

You know as well as I that the VAST majority of Max supporters voted. And he still was beaten soundly. Had the turnout been higher, Mason would have received 75-80% of the vote. Boo-yah!

My statement was not in defense of Max. What you say might be true that the election results would’ve been the same no matter how many people voted.
My point is that a very small percentage of people in Mason city care enough to vote in local elections but the vast majority of people like to complain when things don’t go their way.
I’m happy for you and the candidate that you support, it’s just very sad that more people do not get involved and go out and vote.

Drain the local swamps – Trump’s thumping the elite scum – you have to do the locals yourself – Rocketman is about to fizzle out.

You do know that Mason is a controlled deep state area right? Nothing honest about your so called politics – It’s about who has the money and corporate control. THIS vote means NOTHING ! YOUR vote of NO on the not so honest upcoming taxpayer funded public improvements (ice/slice and dice/walkway to heaven and lining the rich bitches pockets is what you need to be concerned about – This litter fellow is just another one of their puppets – VOTE NO to corruption if that is happening. IF -now that’s laughable. Sorry Max – the dark forces are still in control of the kool aiders.

Seems to me that the vote did mean something. I mean, Max won’t have a council seat. That’s certainly something. Plus, it’s not like the vote was even close. When your opponent receives almost THREE times the votes, it’s a pretty clear message that folks don’t agree with what you have to say.

So, time to send Max out to the pasture. It’s high time the productive folks of Mason City get this town growing again. Yee-haw!!

Like Clear Lake, only certain regular voters participate in these “elections”. Most people simply don’t care. 18% is not democracy, it’s a form of oligarchy. Face the truth that the potential power of Democracy is not understood by the average person in America as most were raised to fear and resent the government. Mason City as most of America is a false democracy and a very unhealthy place to live a life. The small group who has nitched control guards it very closely. Let America RIP, and turn your attention to other pursuits and endeavors. Democracy is DEAD in America.

“18% is not democracy, it’s a form of oligarchy”

a democracy can never not be a democracy because 72% of its constituency *choose* not to exercise its most fundamental right. yes it’s a shit poor turnout but you’re barking up the wrong tree. its not the fault of some abstract system but of the very individuals who chose to squander this right that their forefathers fought and bled for.

What a sound beating! For every on vote Weaver received, Mason recieved nearly three! That, my friends is a mandate from the voting public that they don’t want Weaver involved in city affairs. The voters turned out and said no more council positions for Max and we’re fed up with his barely coherent diatribe at council meetings! This town wants growth, not bitter old men chasing away business!!! Here, here!

Yes, these polls truly reflect 3.5% of our city’s population. what a shameful turnout.

It truly is sad that so few care about what happens in the city.. They don’t mind complaining when things don’t go their way, but can’t take the time to vote. Or else they have just given up and think it makes no difference. Either way it is sad.

The results were a MANDATE! The voting public hates Max. Yee-haw!

921 people (18% of the registered voters) turned out for this election. Sad. This is what’s wrong with Mason City. It’s not the Chamber of Commerce, not the country clubers, it’s not the mayor and his henchmen and it’s not the Max Weaver crowd. What’s wrong with Mason City is the fact that the people do not care enough to go out and vote. If you cannot take the time to vote then you cannot complain about everything else. Sad

Convicted felons can’t vote…looks to me like 80% of Mason Shitty residents are felons.

The article says 18% of the registered voters. If it is illegal for felons to vote then i think they would not be included in the registered voters. Maybe I am wrong though

The bottom line is the special interest groups are mot the problem with Mason City local politics. The problem is the citizens do not care enough to vote in local elections.

Where’s Masson words to Weaver.?

Middle school whaaat, blahblah, obvious you need to move on. Entirely so mad. Good to let it out though so I guess you should have at it. You might pop something. Poor thing, it won’t be ok.

I talked to people who said Matt marquardt has his signatures to be put on the ballot for fourth ward. I am guessing the same thing will happen to him if he gets on the ballot. The people he talked to weren’t impressed with how he wouldn’t answer their questions.

I’ll sure take Matt over Miss Piggy

Geeeezers….no one can ever claim mason city is full of lovers.
Lighten up on Weaver. God is listening and seeing you every day.

At least you can look at who voted and who for at the city. Real interesting then!

Congratulations Max! Why would you put yourself through this anyway. You’ve never done things that require so much energy into the hate they have for you.

I can tell you who had bad mouthed you recently, I get around a bit, they wouldn’t have a thought that I would tattle tale. This could be slander at a high form. They know who they are.

you another prime example of how low the people of mason city can be, have you graduated from middle school yet? isn’t that where tattletales hang out? get over it and move on

Congratulations Joshua Masson.

Fantastic!
We will see how he does, but anything other than Max Weaver is a plus.
Now just make sure that there is no Bill Bill Schickel as Mayor.
The people of Mason City are sick & tired of recycled failures.

I do not know much about Masson he seem like he will do a good. I guess time will tell. I am just glad weaver did not win.

I thought that about bookmeyer to

well mason city residents need to sort thru the chaff to find some fresh seed to grow from. now just do not elect schickle, he’s past his prime and needs to be put to pasture also.

Good luck with that mason city
