Community baby shower to assist at-risk mothers, babies

From Ozzie Ohl, the “One Man Think Tank”:

Each year in north Iowa, many babies are born into poverty. Some are born to women receiving late or no prenatal care and unfortunately there are babies that are born pre-term or at low birth weight.

Jo Hafermann, executive director of Caring Pregnancy Center said “You can make a difference in their lives through the first annual Community Baby Shower. This is a community-wide effort to collect essential baby items that will help at-risk mothers and other mothers give their newborns a stronger start, giving them the supplies and support needed for a healthy beginning and early childhood needs.”

Here is how you can help:

Host a “Baby Shower” item drive with friends or co-workers, or donate money towards the purchase of supplies. Showers can be hosted between April 1 and May 2nd. Donated items will support new moms and babies served by the Caring Pregnancy Center in Mason City.

Jo Hafermann from Caring Pregnancy Center says they are looking for these items:diapers, especially sizes Newborn-6 (but not one’s; pull-ups,wipes,baby acetaminophen, baby cereal, bottles, bottle liners, bottle brushes, formula, teething medicine, baby toys, bibs, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby lotion, baby bath, baby clothes through size 5T, Onesies. They are also in need of these furniture items:cribs(must be new), Pack-n-plays, strollers, high chairs and new car seats. Haferman did explain that all furniture items must be new or up to current safety standards, clean and in great working condition.
Individuals, groups, churches, organizations, schools or businesses who host their own baby shower can drop off their baby shower gifts to Caring Pregnancy Center at 830 15th St Sw in Mason City. Baby shower items can be dropped off Monday & Tuesday from 12 noon-5 pm and Thursday and Friday from 9 PM until 2 PM.

“For those who don’t want to host their own ‘Baby Shower’ there will be a Community Baby Shower on Saturday, May 2nd from 9-11 am at Willow Brook Mall in Mason City,” Haferman said.

This community service project is being created through the efforts of Caring Pregnancy Center, WillowBrook Mall and Relationship In Marketing and Ozzie Ohl with his One Man Think Tank.
