OBIT: Alan “Al” Richard Koleno

Alan “Al” Richard Koleno, age 65, of Mason City, IA passed away peacefully at his home under the care of MercyOne North Iowa Hospice on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, after a long battle with prostate cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025 at Fullerton Funeral Home.

March 25, 1960 – July 23, 2025

Alan “Al” Richard Koleno, age 65, of Mason City, IA passed away peacefully at his home under the care of MercyOne North Iowa Hospice on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, after a long battle with prostate cancer. Arrangements are with Fullerton Funeral Home and Crematory.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St SE, Mason City. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Alan was born on March 25, 1960 to Joseph and Elaine Koleno in Waterloo, IA. He grew up in New Hampton, IA and graduated high school from there. Post-graduation, Alan enlisted in the United States Army. After he was honorably discharged, he became a maintenance tech for factories in the area. Alan was united in marriage with Pam Yelland and together they had two daughters: Allison (Ian) of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Jessica of Mason City. The couple later divorced. Alan started working at Clear Lake Bakery where he met JoDee. They were married in November of 1995 and Alan became a step-father to JoDee’s two sons, Patrick and Christopher.

Alan and JoDee moved to Kansas for 3 years but Alan’s dad was in bad health so they moved back to Iowa. Alan then began working for Malt-O-Meal in St. Ansgar but went on disability soon after. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013 and suffered for many years but is now finally at peace.

All who knew Alan, knew he was a huge gun enthusiast. He proudly hung them on his walls to display them. Alan loved to go target shooting and visiting his friend Denny who owns a gun shop and conversation with anyone who enjoys guns as much as he did.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, JoDee; daughters, Allison (Ian) and Jessica; sons, Patrick (Amber) and Christopher (Casey); grandsons, Dylan and Derek; granddaughter, Adisyn and sister Pam Chadwick. He is also survived by his aunt, Sally; uncle, Mike; aunt, Suzie and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elaine; brother, Dan; grandparents; and many other aunts and uncles.
