AMES – Iowa State got down early but roared back to defeat the Baylor Bears Saturday at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium, 43-21.
Iowa State improved to 5-0 in front of 61,500 Cyclone fans, the 16th sellout in the current stadium configuration. Matt Campbell is now 58-48 at Iowa State and 93-63 overall as a head coach.
Campbell’s 58 wins at Iowa State are the most in program history, passing Dan McCarney’s record of 56 earlier this season. Campbell has coached Iowa State as a ranked team a school record 28 times with a 17-11 record.
Iowa State is 5-0 for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 1980. The Cyclones are 2-0 in Big 12 play for the first time since 2020 and the third time overall (2002).
Baylor still leads the all-time series 12-11, while Iowa State holds a 7-5 advantage in Ames and has won back-to-back games against Baylor for the first time since 2017 and 2018.
Iowa State’s first half blocked punt for a touchdown (Myles Mendeszoon Block, Caden Matson Recovery) was the first since 2004 against Northern Illinois (Ellis Hobbs Block, LaMarcus Hicks Recovery). It was the second non-offensive touchdown against Baylor in school history, joining Brent Curvey’s fumble recovery in 2004.
The Cyclones went over 200 yards rushing for the third-straight game, the longest streak since 2021.
Iowa State’s 43 points are the most Baylor has allowed this season.
The Cyclones went over 500 yards on offense for the first time since Nov. 26, 2021 against TCU (541 yards).
*Iowa State’s 63 points (20 against Houston) are the most in the first two conference games since scoring 88 in the first two of 2021.
The 21 points Iowa State has allowed in the first two Big 12 games is the fewest allowed since giving up 17 in the first two of 2002.

Rocco Becht
*Moved into eighth on ISU’s all-time passing yards list with 4,358, passing Sage Rosenfels (4,164) and David Archer (4,104).

*Has a 50-yard run in back-to-back weeks.
*His 116 yards rushing were the 10th 100-plus yard rushing game against Baylor in Iowa State history.
