After living a life full with family, friends, travel, curiosity and a deep love for farming, Norman Earl Chambers, age 91, of Corwith, Iowa, passed away Sunday February 11, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and all their love.
Norman was born on August 4, 1932, to his parents, Earl and Lillian (Wagner) Chambers, of Corwith, Iowa. He attended Corwith schools and earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State College in 1954. On June 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Dianne Landsberg of Britt, Iowa. In their first year of marriage, they moved to the east coast where Norman worked on jet engines and other projects for GE. Norman and Dianne returned to the Chambers Farm near Corwith, Iowa in 1955. He farmed there his entire life. Bringing in the harvest brought him great joy. Over 18 years, they brought four children into our world, Laura Jo, Jonathan Edward, Amy Elisabeth, and their later in life surprise, Emily Ann. In addition to their children, Norman and Dianne hosted students over the years; Gesa Zinn from Germany, Makoto Takarada and Chiaki Terada from Japan and Thomas Foissey from France – all who became part of the family and considered them as ‘Mom and Dad.’
Norman and Dianne loved to travel related to the soybean business and for pure fun and adventure. Their travels took them many places across the states and various destinations around the world including Canada, Austria, Germany, Czechoslovakia, South America, Singapore and Japan.
Norman kept very busy with a variety of activities throughout the years including serving many years on Soybean Association boards, singing barbershop, acting and singing with Hancock County Little Theater and was active in town, school and church activities. He was a proud Iowa State alum and loved to cheer on the Cyclones. He was full of character and curiosity and considered himself a comedian. He was always up for a conversation, especially political chats. He loved airplanes and was an active pilot in his younger years. His entire life, Norman practiced great health, exercise, was grateful for his family and friends and was the kind of person who would drive 10 miles out of the way for delicious ice cream.
No summary can do Norman justice. He never met a stranger, was genuinely interested in others and therefore, he touched so many lives.
Norman is survived by children Jonathan (Paula) Chambers; Emily (Chad) Stevens; grandchildren Nathan (Amanda Baxendale) Chambers, Lauran (Jacob Patterson) Chambers, Stefan (Bridget) Chambers, Sydney Dornbier, Ryley Dornbier, Sofia Stevens, Sawyer Stevens and great grandson Rory Chambers his two sisters Carol (Kenneth) Smith, Nancy (Charles) Weber, sister-in-law, Julie Pederson (Bob Chambers), son-in-law, Derwin Dornbier, sister-in-law Martha Landsberg. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Lillian, his wife Dianne, daughters Laura Chambers and Amy Dornbier, brother Bob Chambers, sister Joanne Chambers and mother and father-in-law, Ed and Mona Landsberg.
There will be a visitation, church funeral service and a celebration to honor Norman’s life. The funeral service will be live streamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services’ Facebook page.

Celebration
The celebration will follow the funeral at the Corwith Community Center. Lunch will be served and we will have a memory and story sharing time with comments following the meal.
