North Iowans arrested on drug charges after house raided by police

OELWEIN – Several North Iowans face felony drug charges after a house was raided by police.

At approximately 2:40 PM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, the Oelwein Police Department executed a search warrant in the 200 block of 3rd Ave NW in Oelwein. During the course of the search warrant, illegal controlled substances were located and seized. The following subjects have been arrested and charged:

1) Ricky Lee Ackerson, 61 of Oelwein:
Possession with intent to sell/deliver methamphetamine – Class C Felony
Possession with intent to deliver marijuana – Class D Felony
Gathering Where Controlled Substances Used – Methamphetamine – Class D Felony
Drug tax stamp violation – Class D Felony
Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs – Serious Misdemeanor – Four counts
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

2) Patrick Todd Aswegan, 56 of Oelwein:
Gathering Where Controlled Substance Used – Methamphetamine – D Felony
Possession of Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine – Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

3) Ashley Kay Cronan, 37 of Waterloo:
Possession with intent to sell/deliver Methamphetamine – C Felony
Gathering Where Controlled Substance Used – Methamphetamine – D Felony
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

4) David Lee Roy Smith, 61 of West Union:
Gathering Where Controlled Substance Used – Methamphetamine -D Felony
Possession of Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine – Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor

The subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial appearance. Additional charges are pending. The Oelwein Police Department was assisted by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Oelwein Community Development Department.
