WINNESHIEK COUNTY – Two Northern Iowa teens are dead, and three are hurt in an auto crash.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred on Friday, December 17, 2021, in Winneshiek county. At about 10:13 PM that evening, on county road W14 north of Pole Line Road, a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by 18-year-old Dalton Hemesath of Ridgeway, Iowa, was northbound, when Hemesath lost control of the vehicle. Tire marks show that the vehicle went sideways and entered the west ditch and rolled three times before it came to rest on its wheels.

As a result of this accident, Hemesath and a passenger, 18-year-old Karter Einck of Deborah, were killed. Three teens were also hurt: Emmitt Stemper, Brendan Hunter, and David Kfeitzer, all of Decorah.

The patrol claims in its report that none of the teens were wearing seatbelts.

The accident remains under investigation.
