Drunk dudes duke it out in Maynard, Iowa

MAYNARD, IOWA – Two northeast Iowa men were arrested after a drunken slugfest in this small northeast Iowa town Sunday.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday at about 2:30 AM, officers from that agency were called to the city of Maynard for a report of a possibly intoxicated male walking down main street. Upon investigation, it was determined that Zachary Hernandez, age 19 of Oelwein, was intoxicated and walking out into traffic during what amounted to a blizzard.

Officers discovered that Hernandez had been assaulted by a passing motorist who stopped and struck Hernandez in the head several times. That person was discovered a short time later and identified as Nathan Buhman, age 33 of Maynard. Buhman was arrested and charged with second offense operating while intoxicated and felony D willful injury causing bodily injury. He was transported to the Fayette County Jail and was later released.

Hernandez was examined by Maynard emergency first responders and Mercy Oelwein Ambulance, but refused treatment. He was arrested and charged with third offense public intoxication, an aggravated misdemeanor and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. He was transported to the Fayette County jail and was later released.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Maynard First Responders, Mercy Oelwein Ambulance, and the Oelwein Police Dept.
