Alice was born to Bernard and Mary (McCarthy) Fitzgerald on October 14, 1934 in Rockwell, Iowa where she lived until the 4th grade. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, Mason City, Iowa in 1952 and was honored by her classmates to be chosen as the homecoming queen. She married Gary Ebeling, August 7, 1954. Gary was drafted in the Army and Alice joined him after basic training at Camp Carson, Colorado. They moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1957 where Gary was a Pharmacist and Alice a stay -at -home mom raising six children. In 1970 they moved to Humboldt, Iowa. Alice began working in 1981 at the Hallmark stores in Humboldt & Algona where she loved helping customers. Her creative talents were showcased with some of best outfits during main streets “Crazy Days”. She retired from the stores in December of 2001. She then began the hobby of painting on china. She was a member of the Humboldt China Painters club where her passion of painting was evident with the beautiful pieces of china that women would purchase during the organizations spring show. Alice also played Bridge with a couple different Humboldt groups. Strong friendships were formed as they helped each other out with graduations, bridal and baby showers. Alice was adventurous. She along with Gary spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona from 2004 to 2016 making new friendships and memories. In 2007 they moved to Clear Lake, Iowa to be close to where they were raised. She tackled the ski slopes in Colorado and loved ice skating, perfecting the “figure eight.” Alice’s faith was important to her. She was a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Mary’s Parish in Humboldt and would volunteer her time when needed. Alice enjoyed sewing clothes, homecoming dresses, Halloween outfits and doll clothes. She instilled in her children the value of a dollar. With her grocery allotment she would always save a little back to treat herself. Alice was always game for planning a family reunion or class reunion for fun, laughter and reminiscing. She never judged and wanted all of us children to be creative in our own unique ways. Her support and happiness for her children was her goal in raising all of us. Her creative spirit, love of faith and family will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, her parents, brother, Bernard Fitzgerald, sisters Marguerite Maxwell, Genevieve Witt, Mary Jane Moss, and a stillborn daughter Mary. She is survived by her children Sheree (Rich) Eischen, Lori (Bill) Funk, Lisa (Chris) Bennett, Sandra (Brian Johnson) Ebeling, David Ebeling, Michael (Moira)Ebeling, six grandchildren, Christopher Cran, Katie Phillips, Sarah (Brad) Becker, Emily (Christopher) Ludwig, Brian Funk and Ingrid Ebeling.
