Iowa bicyclist struck and killed by motorist in Urbandale

URBANDALE, IOWA – An Iowa bicyclist was struck and killed by a motorist in Urbandale this weekend.

On September 19th, 2021, at approximately 7:17 AM, Urbandale Police Department patrol officers and Urbandale Fire Department rescue personnel responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle accident in the 8500 block of Meredith Drive.

A preliminary investigation of the scene indicates that the driver of a vehicle was traveling east on Meredith Drive in the 8500 block when the vehicle struck a bicyclist who was also traveling east in the outside lane, closest to the curb. Although lifesaving measures were attempted at the scene by both bystanders and first responders, the bicyclist died at the hospital as a result of the injuries sustained in this accident.

The bicyclist has been identified as 55-year-old Des Moines resident Eric Christopher Lindberg.
The driver of the vehicle in this incident has been identified as 67-year-old West Des Moines resident Deborah Jackson.

The Urbandale Police Department’s Technical Accident Investigation Team arrived on scene and is conducting an ongoing investigation.
