OBIT: Roger D. Brownmiller

Roger Brownmiller, 76, went to be with the Lord on 27January 2021 at Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa. Burial will be held in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Mercy One Heart Center at Mercy Medical Center.

Roger Dean Brownmiller was born March 20, 1944, in Cherokee, IA to parents Harold and Lela (Cave) Brownmiller. His family called him “Butch”, a nickname that stuck with him his entire life. He was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Army from 1964-1968. He flew home on emergency leave in 1965 for his father’s sudden illness and death.

Roger married LaVonne Borrink in 1971 and they settled in Aurelia, IA. Roger went to work for the US Postal Service after his Army service, working his way up to Postmaster of the Hampton and finally Britt, Iowa offices where he retired in 1999. After retirement he drove school bus in Clear Lake and Mason City for 7 years

Roger is survived by his wife, LaVonne; two children: David Brownmiller, and his wife, Erin (Pecha), and Laura Rosenau; two granddaughters, Nicole Brownmiller and Eden Rosenau. He is also survived by one sister, Carolyn (& Bob) Meyer; 5 nieces and 1 nephew: Roxy (& Bob) Richard, Steve (& Kathy) Brownmiller, Deb (& Chad) Lucas, Teresa (& Daryl) Hazenwinkel, Ruth Watts, and Tabitha (&Eric) Jude; goddaughter, Brien (Richard) Kennedy; 19 great nieces and nephews, and 24 great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Harold “Jr”, Francis “Red”, and Ronald Brownmiller; 1 niece, Rose Marie Meyer; 1 great nephew, Cody Hazenwinkel; and two great nieces, Desiree Meyer and Jessica Minor.

Roger was an avid Iowa and Iowa State fan. He loved golfing and bowhunting for many years and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters. He will be remembered for his love of westerns, making his nieces and nephews laugh, spending time with his grandchildren and of course the infamous Brownmiller-men stubbornness.
