Minnesota semi driver rolls truck loaded with hog feed into Northern Iowa ditch, causing over $100k damages

PALO ALTO COUNTY – A Minnesota semi driver rolled his truck loaded with hog feed into a Northern Iowa ditch, causing over $100,000k in damages.

On Monday, June 27th, 2022, at 09:33 am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a semi truck and trailer roll over in the 5700 block of 320th Street. Following the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that 51-year-old Duane Buchmeier of Sherburn, MN was driving a 2012 Freighliner Cascadia west bound in the 5700 block of 320th Street, hauling feed to a nearby hog site. Buchmeier was unable to maintain control of the semi truck, drove onto the shoulder and ultimately rolled over into the north ditch. A further investigation determined that Buchmeier was under the influence of alcohol, which was a factor in Buchmeier’s ability to maintain control of the semi truck. There was an estimated $100,000 in damage to the semi, trailer, and feed loss. Buchmeier sustained minor injuries during the accident and refused medical assistance.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Duane Buchmeier for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, which is a serious misdemeanor and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, which is a simple misdemeanor. Buchmeier was transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail.
