Iowa awards over $19 million is state tax credits to various projects; none in North Iowa on list

DES MOINES – The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) announced last week it registered 11 projects in seven communities to receive State Historic Preservation Tax credits totaling $19.1 million.

None of the projects were located in North Iowa.

“The condition of a community’s historic structures sends a message to residents,” said IEDA director Debi Durham. “These projects, when complete, will tell residents and visitors that we value the past, but also are looking toward the future.”

IEDA received 21 applications requesting $70 million in tax credits for the May 2018 registration period. Projects are scored based on readiness, financing, local support and participation.

The Historic Preservation Tax Credit program provides a state income tax credit to projects for rehabilitation of historic buildings. The program is designed to promote the retention of unique, character-defining buildings and building features that contribute to a community and neighborhood. Rehabilitation must meet the federal Secretary of Interior standards.

The Historic Preservation Tax Credit program is administered by IEDA in partnership with the State Historic Preservation Office. Since the program moved to IEDA in August 2016, 38 large projects have been registered to receive $62.9 million in credits.

The next registration round for large projects under the Historic Preservation Tax Credit program will be late fall 2018.

Readiness, far from ready
Financing, none so far
Local Support, ya there was a vote but now for what now is planned, lets have another vote, im sure it will go the other way.
Participation, ya every tax payer is gunna get to participate, we all get to take turns bending over.

Speaking of this historic council – we in worth county know County Supervisor Bartz Bought bought the old chinese restaurant in Manly on the the north end – delapidated – was given $75,000.00 by the WCDA last year to restore it – seen payment in Manly Signal newspaper – a few months ago he gave this pile of junk to the Worth county historical society – OUR QUESTION IS – WHAT HAPPENED TO THE $75,000.00 he received ? Did the new owners also get the money donated to restore it – or did MR. Bartz county supervisor pocket it like the rest of his not questionable dealings here in Worth County ? If you could straighten this matter out the people in Worthless county would be grateful.
