Suspicion call lands two wanted men in jail

MASON CITY – Shortly after 1pm Tuesday, January 8th, Mason City police were dispatched to check on suspicious people in a garage behind the apartment complex located at 804 North Federal Avenue.

Two of the suspicious subjects police confronted had valid Cerro Gordo County warrants and were arrested and transported to Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Michael Allen Legler, age 35, had been wanted after failing to appear to a trial for driving while revoked on December 20th, 2012. Legler is no stranger to local police who have previously arrested him for burglary, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, and unlawfully carrying concealed weapons. Legler has since been released from jail pending further court proceedings in the driving while revoked case.

Matthew Vance Query, age 29, had been wanted after failing to appear to a plea change hearing for possession of marijuana 3rd or subsequent offense on October 9th, 2012. The Iowa Department of Corrections requested Query’s probation be revoked on November 6th, and an additional warrant was issued at that time. Query was also charged with interference with official acts for trying to evade arrest when officers arrived to the apartment complex this afternoon.

Query is currently on probation for a possession of a controlled substance 2nd offense conviction. Query’s history with local police started as a juvenile for drug possession with numerous arrests for possessing marijuana or methamphetamine since becoming an adult. Query remains in the Cerro Gordo County jail on a $7,300 bail bond requirement pending further court proceedings.

It is unclear if the five at the apartment complex or what business they might have had there, no charges related to the original call to police have been made.
