RURAL NORTH IOWA – A Missouri woman fled local law enforcement Monday evening on Interstate 35 at speeds reaching 110 miles per hour, tosses drugs out the window beginning in Cerro Gordo county before she was finally caught in Minnesota.
The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s department says that on March 12, 2018, at about 7:02 PM, a deputy attempted a traffic stop of a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck for speeding on 300th Street (County Road B20) in Cerro Gordo County. The truck turned North onto Interstate 35 and fled from the Deputy, reaching speeds of approximately 110 miles per hour. During the pursuit, the driver was throwing items out of the vehicle, which were later recovered.
The driver, 45-year-old Monica Christine Lynch of Liberty, Missouri, continued to flee from law enforcement, driving out of Cerro Gordo County, through Worth County, and ending up in Freeborn County, Minnesota, where Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle with stop sticks. Lynch drove off of the roadway, stopped, and was taken into custody with no further incident. There were no injuries and no vehicles were damaged as a result of the pursuit. A Cerro Gordo County Deputy was able to take Lynch into custody, with the assistance of Freeborn County Deputies, an Iowa State Trooper, and Minnesota State Troopers.
Lynch was taken to the Freeborn County Jail on several Minnesota charges.
During a search of the Ram truck, a loaded rifle was found inside the cab. Found along Interstate 35 where Lynch was throwing items out of the vehicle, suspected methamphetamine and marijuana were found.
Warrants have been filed for Lynch in Cerro Gordo County for the following: Felony Eluding, a Class D Felony; Possession of a Firearm as a Felon, a Class D Felony; Possession of Methamphetamine, a Serious Misdemeanor; Possession of Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor; Littering, a Simple Misdemeanor; No Driver’s License, a Simple Misdemeanor. Lynch is being held in the Freeborn County Jail on the Minnesota charges and will eventually be extradited to Iowa for the warrants filed in Cerro Gordo County.
The Worth County Sheriffs Office also assisted with the pursuit.
