CHARLES CITY – The sex abuse trial of a Charles City man has ended in a mis-trial and the saga now moves to a Mason City courtroom.
Douglas Lindaman, age 62, has stood trial in Charles City and Hampton, so far, for the alleged sex abuse of a teen boy. His latest trial in Hampton ended in a mistrial and proceedings will start back up in Mason City.
A Floyd county jury returned a guilty verdict for sex abuse in April of 2016 against Lindaman of Charles City; he was running for school board for the second time when he was arrested. The jury had worked for only a few hours before bringing back the verdict. His crime against a 17-year-old male farm hand took place in spring of 2011. He was sent to prison for up to 10 years. Lindaman – a convicted sex offender due to felony sex crimes he committed in the 1980’s – was later granted a new trial by the Iowa Supreme Court. That trial was moved to Franklin county due to pre-trial publicity. Then, Lindaman’s previous criminal history was brought up in court, leading to the mis-trial.
A new trial in this case is scheduled to start on April 9 in Cerro Gordo county.
Lindaman also faces a charge of tampering with a witness, records show.
