MASON CITY – The City of Mason City will conduct two public forums to present information related to the River City Renaissance Project.
The forums will be held on September 28, 2017 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and October 7, 2017 from 10:30 am to Noon. The public forums will be held in the FEMA Room at the High School/John Adams Middle School. Attendees will reach the FEMA Room by entering through the John Adams Cafeteria doors which are located to the left of the FEMA Room.
The River City Renaissance Project is the name of the Iowa Reinvestment District project that has been provisionally approved by the Iowa Economic Development Authority for $7.1 million in funding. The City of Mason City is seeking up to $10 million in funding for the project. The project includes the following components: Multi-Purpose Arena, Performing Arts Pavilion, New Downtown 100 room Hotel, New Meredith Willson Museum, Renovated Museum space for conventions, and a Skywalk to go between the Museum and Music Man Square. City officials will give a presentation at the beginning of the public forum to explain the project and then a question and answer period will follow the presentation.

Two things I noticed – The traffic in the pics is running in both directions. Will this not be a one-way anymore?
Also, there are no fat people in the second pic…not very accurate at all.
We need to do something with the mall, all right, but nothing like this. We need convention space, but we don’t have to do this much to get it. We could do plenty without spending this amount of money, and mortgaging the next how many years.
Its the perfect option for the mall. This will bring a lot of people to Mason City.

The city actually contributes very little money in this proposal. It’s mostly private investment. This is the best deal the city will ever get if we want a multipurpose arena in this town for a entertainment option.
This is NOT the right time in Mason City’s history to expand/throw money in a careless manner. That is unless your the developer/owner or or a public servant who cares not how much it costs – really only property owners should be allowed to vote – they are the ones who will pay for it.
This is a total waste of time and money. We are going to vote this monstrosity down.
In the beginning I was for this.Now it’s a downtown rebuild of nothing we need.I don’t understand how they think this is going to go through.I love my town but it’s turning into a real shithole.We don’t need another hotel or a f’in sky walk.Will these F heads do something that’s good for the city instead of bending us over.IT’S NOT GOING TO PASS DUMB ASSESS!!!!
Same here. The numbers keep changing, and Rachie seems more and more like a snake oil salesman. Then there’s the fact that so many of the people pushing this don’t even live in Mason City.
