MASON CITY — David Allen Clark, 83, of Mason City, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Concord Care Center in Garner.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. NE in Mason City, with Pastor Derek Crawford of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel before the service.
David was born May 7, 1943, in Forest City. During his childhood, he lived on a farm near Fertile with his foster parents, Bob and Ora Kuhn, creating memories alongside his sister, Lois, that remained meaningful throughout his life.
He attended school in Fertile before graduating from Ventura High School.
David spent more than 40 years with Marshall & Swift, building a career that was defined as much by the relationships he developed as the work itself. According to his obituary, his customers became friends, and his outgoing personality made it easy for him to strike up conversations wherever he went.
His career also led him to the love of his life.
While working at Marshall & Swift, David met Linda, and the two were married Oct. 15, 1988, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. Together they shared 25 years of marriage filled with bowling, dancing, travel and countless memories made alongside friends and family.
David was the father of Shelley Schutz and Brad Clark. After marrying Linda, he also embraced her daughters, Penny and Shawn, as members of his own family, creating a close-knit household built on love and acceptance.
Family became the center of David’s life.
He rarely missed a birthday and had a tradition his children and grandchildren came to expect. According to his obituary, David was almost always the first to call, singing his own personalized version of “Happy Birthday” to celebrate their special day.
He took a genuine interest in the lives of his grandchildren, enjoying conversations with them and eagerly looking forward to receiving their texts and photos. Watching Wheel of Fortune together became another cherished family tradition.
Away from family gatherings, David enjoyed listening to music, watching virtually every kind of sporting event on television and relaxing with a cold Miller Lite or a little bourbon among friends.
His easygoing personality and gift for conversation left a lasting impression on many who knew him. Whether at work, with family or simply meeting someone new, David had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome.
David is survived by his son, Brad Clark; Penny (Don) Harty and their children, Cole (Shannon) Harty and Macy (John) Huffman; Shawn Andreetti and her daughters, Samantha and Mason; his sister, Lois (Art) La Bahn; five half-siblings; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his foster parents, Bob and Ora Kuhn; his wife, Linda; and his daughter, Shelley.
David leaves behind a legacy built not on grand accomplishments, but on kindness, loyalty and the simple traditions that brought people together. For those who knew him best, he will be remembered as the friendly voice on the phone, the familiar face always ready for conversation and the devoted family man who never forgot a birthday.
