CHARLES CITY – A North Iowa man caught previously drunk driving was allegedly at it again recently, spotted on the wrong side of the road by police.
On the evening of May 14, 2017, a report was submitted to police about a reckless driver entering Charles City on Gilbert Street. A Charles City police officer responded, and witnessed the suspect vehicle on the wrong side of the road. The vehicle was stopped and after an investigation, the driver, 23-year-old Jaiton Mangun – now of Mason City – was arrested on charges of second-offense operating while intoxicated, possession of an illegal substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, no insurance, driving while suspended (OWI), no driver’s license and driving on wrong side of a roadway.
Mangun was taken to the Floyd county jail and soon transferred to the Cerro Gordo county jail. He remains held there on parole and probation violations/revocations.
Mangun was last guilty of drunk driving in 2015 after he was caught in 2014 by Charles City police after crashing his 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix into a utility pole. He was guilty of drug crimes in 2015 and was shipped to the Beje Clark halfway house in Mason City, where he now lives.
