Shawn Lee Rockwell, 51, of Mason City, remembered for devotion to family and love of sports

MASON CITY – Shawn Lee Rockwell, 51, of Mason City, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 20, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue in Mason City. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., one hour before the service. The family invites those attending to dress casually. Shawn will be laid to rest at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

MASON CITY – Shawn Lee Rockwell, 51, of Mason City, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 20, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue in Mason City. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., one hour before the service. The family invites those attending to dress casually.

Shawn will be laid to rest at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.

Born June 11, 1975, Shawn was the son of Gary Rockwell Jr. and Cathy Berneman Rogers. He grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1993.

Shawn spent many years working in the hospitality and service industries. His employment included time at Burger King and Pizza Ranch, and he most recently worked at Hy-Vee East.

Sports provided Shawn with enjoyment throughout his life. He played Little League baseball as a boy and remained a loyal Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings fan from his junior-high years forward. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling with friends and sharing boxing matches with his cousin, Karen England.

Away from sports, Shawn took particular pleasure in collecting Star Wars memorabilia.

Those carrying forward his memory include his children, Jessica Rockwell, Helen and her husband, Jake Goodrich, Mary Rockwell and her fiancé, Drew, and Darik Rockwell; his mother, Cathy Rogers and her husband, Dale; his brother, Jason Rockwell and his wife, Dana; nephews Garett and Carter Rockwell; aunts Debra Tuttle and her husband, Roberts, and Patsy Berneman; and many additional aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shawn was preceded in death by his father and grandparents; uncles Bill and Dale Berneman; aunt Diane Berneman; cousin Mike Carpenter; and uncles Brian and Steve Rockwell.
