MASON CITY – A rural Mason City house and garage burned after a teen’s cardboard fire got out of control.
Monday morning at about 10:36 AM at 19288 B 280th Street in rural Mason City, a resident at that address, 19-year-old Nikolas Blakely, had been burning cardboard, the Cerro Godo county sheriff’s office reported. Several hours later, embers from the cardboard started the garage on fire and eventually the home was totally engulfed in flames.
The residence is owned by Allen and Delores Lathrop of Mason City. The home was being rented by Ryann Donisi whom lived there with her son Nikolas and 13-year-old son Lucas. Nickolas had reentered the residence to retrieve three dogs. Nikolas was checked out on scene by EMTs.
No injuries are reported at this time.

Man who ever got up at 3 am to look up someones tax shit must be one miserable S.O.B. Roll over and whack off douche bag. You’d make a good greeter at walmarts front door as only loonytoons sit and look shit up at 3am.
HJ your like the thing in my pants, a Big P*****K
hj – drink some kool aid and brush your teeth more.
That’a like farm subsides – a buddy of mine bought some timberland for private hunting and collects a farm subsidy on it – not much but what the fk? Think out government is not sick ?
looked property up in the tax roll. the lathrops are getting both military and homestead on their taxes, how can that be if its a rental
My goodness don’t you have anything better to do that snoop or worry about what other people are doing? Get a life.
It’s 3AM and all you have to do is sit around and look at North Iowa today and the assessor’s website? I suppose you’ll wake up at 1PM today with nothing to do and start the whole charade all over again. And how do you know their situation? Maybe they’re renting it because they’re away for the winter or some other such circumstance.
Some people work different hours, like at night, and sleep during the day. Also, people scam the government when given the opportunity. You must be a judgmental prick.
Oh so you know they’re scamming the government? Calling me judgmental is certainly calling the kettle black on that one but one such as yourself probably doesn’t even realize that. Someone who sees a story about a fire and then runs to the assessor report to investigage the owner certainly has too much free time so I doubt seriously anyone was doing this research on their lunch break at work.
Glad everyone is ok!
