Clear Lake man says he’s not guilty of vicious assault at bar

CLEAR LAKE – A Clear Lake man threw another man down a flight of stairs and pummeled him, causing serious injuries, and now faces a felony – but says he’s not guilty.

The alleged assault took place at Bikerz Bar, 313 Main Avenue in downtown Clear Lake on January 15, 2017. After 2 AM that morning, 56-year-old Bruce Otto Bonorden allegedly pushed a victim causing the victim to fall face first down a flight of stairs. Clear Lake police tell NIT that Bonorden “continued to assault victim and caused serious injury.”

The victim – who police believe was acquainted with Bonorden – was hospitalized for several days. They are not sure how the fight started.

Bonorden was later arrested on a charge of felony willful injury. He entered a not-guilty plea in February and now awaits an April 4 jury trial. A pre-trial conference (possible plea deal) is set for March 21.

Bonorden, Bruce Otto
