Role Call
Present were: Mr. Binnebose; Mr. Nelson; Mr. Shimak; Mr. Pearson and Mr. Diaz.
Public Forum
Linda Paulson, Mason City, asked if there couldn’t be waste receptacles put out along the trails at Georgia Hanford Park, for dog waste. Bob Berggren agreed, and will take care of.
Board Reports
Mr. Binnebose reported on a letter he received from the Movick’s Volunteer Coordinators of the 457. The Cannonball is shaping up very nicely, a fresh coat of paint and the brake levers / throttles all brassed as good as when it was new in 1912.
Mr. Pearson reported; he had gotten a call regarding motor vehicles out at Evans Preserve. Bill Stangler will notify the MCPD. Mr. Pearson reported; Dennis Rood would be willing to help with Youth golf lessons at Highland Park.
There will be a meeting on 4/23/13 at noon with Mrs. Swiggle, regarding the playground equipment at Parkers Woods.
Staff Reports
Bob Berggren reported; Park Crew has been cleaning and doing maintenance on trails. Police Dept. may have recovered a 3 point mounted rake that was stolen. We have been getting the restrooms ready to open in the shelters, also been working on the soccer fields at Hoover School, painting garbage cans for the Parks too. We are working on hiring back most of the part time staff from last year. Brad is working on the tennis courts, George Barker, City
Electrician is checking all the lighting. Twenty more trees will be planted in the Gerk Arboretum in May. Steve Ball will be painting the swimming pool, just waiting for the weather to cooperate. Street Dept. has approximately 10 truck loads of wood split for the campgrounds. The citizens of Central Heights would like to put a basketball court and 1 hoop in Dustin Colby Park, Association has funding. Sliding dam across from Shelter # 1 in East Park, half of it is washed out, Park staff will fix.
Brian Pauly’s report, while at IPRA he will be meeting with REAP officials to discuss receiving funds for our City trail system. Meeting with MUSCO on a sport lighting Grant for Ray Rorick Sports Complex. Meeting with US Tennis Association Missouri Valley Rep. on the concept plan expanding & remodeling East Park Tennis Courts, will be submitting application by 9/30/13. Meeting with Park & Rec. Directors to talk about Golf Course management, also while at IPRA, will take recertification class as CPO. Highland Park Golf Course will soon be
open, after the frost completely leaves the ground, the Meet & Greet went well, had about 60 people come. Total revenue in for the Club house from 3/18 – 4/4/13 was $67,842.40 (92 season passes). Swimming Pool will be painted soon. Camp Grounds, planning to open 4/19 if weather permits. Youth & Adult sports, gearing up for soccer, t-ball, softball and many more fun activities.

Facility requests – Mr. Nelson moved to approve the use of Monroe Park to First Baptist Church for a Children’s Festival on 8/4 – 8/7/13 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Mr. Diaz second the motion. All vote Yea. Motion carried.
Mr. Nelson moved to approve the use of the Band Shell in East Park to 1st Assembly of God for a Youth Group Rally on 7/6/13 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Mr. Binnebose second the motion. All voted Yea. Motion carried.
Mr. Nelson moved to approve the use of Central Park to MC Main Street (Jodee O’Brien) for River City Festival on 9/20 & 9/21/13 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mr. Diaz second the motion. All voted Yea. Motion carried.
Mr. Nelson moved to approve the use of Central Park to MC Main Street for Cheers & Beers Event on 8/3/13 from 1:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. Mr. Binnebose second the motion. All voted Yea. Motion carried.
Mr. Nelson moved to approve the use of Central Park to MC Main Street for Friday Night Live on 6/21, 7/19 & 8/1/13. Mr. Diaz second the motion. All voted Yea. Motion carried.
Mr. Nelson moved to approve the use of Central Park to MC Main Street for MC Market/Farmers Market on Thursdays from 5/23 to 9/19/13. Mr. Diaz second the motion. All voted Yea. Motion carried.
Mr. Binnebose moved to approve the use of the Band Shell in East Park on 8/6/13 from 5:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for National Night Out, MC Police Dept. Mr. Nelson second the motion. All voted Yea. Motion carried.
New Business
Highland Park – Advisory Committee – Youth Term Wording – Mr. Pearson moved to change the wording to read “Up to 3 year term”, instead of currently saying, “ 3 year term”. Mr. Binnebose second the motion. All voted Yea.
