MASON CITY – Mason City resident Jason Uhlmann made one final pitch to the City Council of Mason City at Tuesday night’s meeting for his stop sign, which he wants installed at 1st Street NW and Linden Drive. Mr. Uhlmann hoped a stop sign would slow down the drivers that whiz past his home regularly.
However, City Engineer Mark A. Rahm also presented a case against a stop sign to the Council, saying a stop sign would do nothing to curb the speeding problem.
The City Council agreed with Rahm, and voted 6-0 against a stop sign on 1st Street NW.
However, the Council was sympathetic to the speeding problem.
Council member Janet Solberg wanted to make sure at least some signage would be installed to warn drivers to slow down. City Administrator Brent Trout displayed print-outs of possible signage that will be installed to help with the problem. The signs are yellow, with a white box for the speed limit, and also include phrases such as “Kid friendly area.”
The timing of the installation of the new signs will depend on the workload of City employees.
