NIACC’s Khat wins 2 events at Sol Butler Classic

DUBUQUE – NIACC’s Wal Khat won two events at the Sol Butler Classic Saturday on the University of Dubuque campus.
Khat won the 600-meter run in 1 minute, 22.54 seconds and also won the mile run in 4:27.60 to lead the Trojans to an 10th place finish with 26 points.

Augustana (Ill.) won the men’s team title with 103 points.

Also for the NIACC men Saturday in their season-opening indoor meet, Brody Goos was seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.16. Blake Keller was ninth in the 3,000 in 9:20.54.
The Trojans’ 4×200-meter relay team of Goos, Andre McKinney, Scott Hengesteg and Ethan Klasi was sixth in 1:37.65.
The NIACC women placed 11th with 18 points. Augustana (Ill.) also won the women’s team title with 110 points.

NIACC’s Cailey Weaver was third in the 600 in a time of 1:41.76 and Kendra Schmidt was 10th in 1:51.47. The Lady Trojans’ Patricia Sahr was fourth in the high jump (5 feet, 1 3/4 inches).

The Lady Trojans were fourth in the 4×800 (10:26.48) running Schmidt, Weaver, Amy Fullerton and Keisha Gonzague.

The NIACC women were eighth in the 4×200 (1:59.08) running Lindsey Haley, Kaylee Eggers, Sahr and Bryanna Lambert.

The NIACC men and women return to action Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Wartburg College Chelsey M. Henkenius Invitational.
