Suspect allegedly drives stolen pickup through garage door during burglary

ROCKFORD, IOWA – A Klemme man allegedly broke into a garage near Rockford and drove the owner’s pickup through the garage door during a burglary attempt.

The incident took place Monday, January 9, 2017. At 1:43 AM, Cerro Gordo deputies responded to a residence in the 22000 mile of 220th Street near Rockford. The homeowner was awoken by loud noises when a burglar drove their 2002 Chevrolet K2500 pickup through the garage door.

At approximately 3:43 AM, the Iowa State Patrol located the stolen pickup in the ditch at 170th Street and Balsam Avenue. One male suspect was taken into custody, 28-year-old Clay Kalvig of Klemme. Kalvig is currently in the Cerro Gordo County jail charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony; third-degree burglary, a Class D felony; and second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony.

Damage to the garage and pickup is over $1,000.00.

The Iowa State Patrol assisted the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department.
