Poll: One in four uninsured Americans plan to stay that way

WASHINGTON – A small but substantial proportion of Americans who have no health insurance said in a recent poll that they are more likely to pay a government fine than to follow a mandate that says they must purchase coverage.

According to a Gallup poll conducted November 20 through December 2, 17% of U.S. adults currently do not have health insurance. With 28% of the uninsured group not planning to get insurance, assuming they follow through on those intentions, that would mean a minimum of 5% of all U.S. adults would be uninsured, leaving the U.S. short of its goal of universal coverage.

Gallup found that 45% of uninsured Republicans plan to pay the fine imposed by the Affordable Care Act for not buying health insurance, compared with 31% of independents and 15% of Democrats.

As I have stated many times in the past, I think this program will fail, it is set up to fail to go to single payer.

Here are the problems, this program depends on the youth to pay these large premiums and buy in at large numbers, that is not happening, so premiums will go up.

What most people don’t realize is, the fines may be less expensive this year but they go up every year and if this things survives through the first 2 years, the fines will exceed the cost of the insurance and everyone will have to comply. It is sad extortion and is not constitutional. I don’t care what the court ruled, they were not right.

So don’t buy the coverage. Pay the fine and the rest of us working poor will continue to foot the bill in one way or another when you show up at the ER. Losers! Quit stealing from the system.

Big brother just looking out for his sheeple.

I would be willing to be that if they actually took the time to see how much it cost they would change their minds. Alas we will always have some ultra crazy folks who will have nothing to do with the whole thing because they have some wild fox news inspired reasoning. Those are the folks who will continue to drive up costs for all of us.

@John-You know John you really do not know what you are talking about here. If you make over 30K a year you can count on your premiums going up over 30% for a lot less coverage. And God help them if they go to the hospital. All three have lost the company insurance they have had for years. I know this because I looked at it for my children. They have worked very hard to get ahead in life while the freeloaders you support have not and it just doesn’t make any sense to take money away from them to give it to people who do not work and have no intention of working. Of course you are getting a free ride because the great communist in D.C. has give your unions a reprieve. You should be so proud.

I would be willing to bet the number not signing up will be more than this.

$95 or 2% of your income, if you earn $20.000 the fine is $400. The fines will increase every year until you finally drop to your knee’s and have to take the insurance.
