Juvenile hospitalized after adult allegedly provides booze

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman was taken to jail after she allegedly provided booze to a minor who ended up in the emergency room.

The incident ook place on January 3, 2017. At approximately 1:30 AM, Mason City police officers were dispatched to a 685 9th Street SE to do a welfare check on some juveniles. Officers arrived and found a juvenile inside that residence who had consumed alcohol but no parent was present.

As a result of a police investigation, officers suspected a non-parent adult of providing alcohol to the child. The officers then went to 1424 North Hampshire and arrested 28-year-old Sheila Rick for Providing Alcohol to a Person Under Legal Age and Contributing to Juvenile Delinquency. She was then jailed on the two charges.

The minor was transported to Mercy ER by the Fire Dept for evaluation. No charges have been filed against the minor at this time.
