BUTLER COUNTY – A car versus semi crash claimed the life of a Northern Iowa man in Butler county last night, authorities say.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Monday night, March 11, 2024. At about 9:23 PM that evening at the intersection of Highway 3 and Quail Avenue near Clarksville, a semi-tractor driven by 57-year-old Mark John Behrens of Carroll was westbound on Highway 3. At the same time, a 2013 Dodge Dart driven by 31-year-old Brady Lee Cashatt of Parkersburg was northbound on Quail Avenue. The patrol says Cashatt failed to stop for a stop sign and struck the semi in the front driver side. The semi then rolled into the northwest ditch. Cashatt’s vehicle also rolled and landed upright on the travel portion of Highway 3.

As a result of the collision, Cashatt, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died from injuries sustained in the accident. Behrens was transported to the Waverly Health Center by Allison EMS for treatment of unknown injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
