One hurt in Mason City collision

ambulanceMASON CITY – A woman was taken to the hospital and a man cited after he collided with her vehicle Monday morning in Mason City.

Officers and other emergency responders were dispatched to a two vehicle collision with injuries at 10:46 AM Monday at the intersection of South Taft Avenue and 4th Street SW. Reina Jones of Mason City was stopped at the intersection facing south and waiting to turn left on to the frontage road due to oncoming traffic. Cody Holzerland, also of Mason City, was driving a Chevy Monte Carlo directly behind Jones’ Toyota Avalon. Holzerland failed to stop in time and rear-ended the Avalon.

Jones said via social media that “he rear ended me at full speed.”

She also said “I was stopped waiting to turn at 122 and Taft with my turn signal on. The guy who tried to flee the scene, who put his car in reverse smiled and waved as he drove by me, finally did pull over. He told police he wasn’t paying attention.”

As a result of the collision, Jones was transported to Mercy Hospital by Mason City fire medics. She was home later resting with a sprained neck and concussion.

Holzerland was cited for Failure to Stop in Assured Clear Distance.
