NIACC cross country teams both place third at regionals

niacc_trojans_logoFORT DODGE – The NIACC men’s and women’s cross country teams both placed third at the NJCAA Region XI meet Sunday at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.

The No. 14 NIACC women placed third with 74 points. Top-ranked Iowa Central was the regional champion for the 12th straight year with 20 points and No. 22 Iowa Western was second with 60 points.

The No. 21 NIACC men placed third with 71 points. No. 1 Iowa Central was the regional champion for the third straight year with 22 points and No. 9 Iowa Western was second with 62 points.

For the NIACC men, sophomore Imad Amenzou earned first-team all-region honors with a fourth-place finish in 26:06 on the 8K course.

Amenzou earned honorable mention all-region honors as a freshman with a 12th-place finish.

Jacob Day, Nick Frenz and Tyler Randall all earned honorable mention all-region honors. Day was 11th in 27:25, Frenz was 18th in 28:30 and Randall was 19th in 28:35.

Randall was an honorable mention all-region selection as a freshman with a 13th-place finish.

Also for the NIACC men, Jose Aguilera was 28th in 29:46, John Enright was 33rd in 30:05, Lucas White was 45th in 31:41 and Aaron Hardcastle was 48th in 31:52.

For the NIACC women, freshman Jessica Blumberg placed sixth to lead the Lady Trojans. She covered the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 16 seconds to earn second-team all-region honors.

Also earning honorable mention all-region honors for the Lady Trojans were Alyssa Cowan was 14th in 21:48, Lattie Crozier was 15th in 21:59, Kendra Schmidt was 18th in 22:20 and Jordan Lane was 22nd in 22:36.

Also for the NIACC women, Emerson Sears was 29th in 24:11, Taylor Glawe was 43rd in 25:37 and Emma Phipps was 54th in 28:44.

Both the NIACC men and women will compete at the NJCAA national meet Nov. 14 in Fort Dodge.
