CHICAGO – Numerous reports are naming Fred Hoiberg as the new coach od the Chicago Bulls.
Yahoo Sports reports that league sources are telling them that Fred Hoiberg is signing a 5-year deal worth about $25 million.
No official announcement has been made, yet.
As he leaves Ames, star player Georges Niang said the “impact (Hoiberg) had on this school, program and community will never be forgotten.”
The Chicago Bulls announced on May 28 that Tom Thibodeau would not be retained as head coach, firing him after five years, and opening the coaching vacancy. It was reported that the Bulls had just one candidate they were interested in – Hoiberg.
Hoiberg was dubbed “The Mayor” in Ames after playing high school and college basketball there for years. When he came back to coach the Iowa State Cyclones, his return was heralded, and he leaves a top-10 team for someone else to take over. His departure has been dreaded by most Cyclone fans, but seen as inevitable.
