MASON CITY – Three men – one from Mason City, one from Charles City and one from Mississippi – were brought to jail Wednesday night after a traffic stop. One had himself a set of brass knuckles.
A Cerro Gordo deputy conducted a traffic stop at about 10:30 PM Wednesday night near 20th Street SE and Pennsylvania Avenue. During the traffic stop, the deputy was warned there were “alerts” for caution on one of the three men in the vehicle, Michael Aaron Cordell Canady of Mason City. Canady had been arrested by Mason City police back on June 30 for being drunk in public (at least his third time) and carrying a knife over 8 inches long. He later pled guilty, and our local judge Karen Salic was nice enough to suspend a 2 year prison term and a $625 fine and put him on 2 years of probation so he could walk the streets of Mason City. Salic also let Canady off the hook in 2013 for the same offense until he violated his probation soon thereafter. She sent him to prison from July of 2013 to March of 2014, only to be arrested again in June.
The deputy called for a second car for backup during the stop as the investigation continued. It was soon discovered that Canady possessed a dangerous weapon (Sheriff Kevin Pals tells NIT it was a set of brass knuckles). It was also discovered that the driver, 24-year-old Antwaun Lee Morris of Charles City, was driving with a revoked license. Another passenger, 21-year-old Foradore Dedonell Johnson, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.
All three men were then arrested and jailed. They all soon posted bond and were released, pending court dates.
